Gresham resident, Hubert Johnson died in a Portland care center on January 24, 2010. He was 87.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, at Sandy Funeral Home on January 30. Private burial will be at Firhill Memorial Cemetery in Sandy.
Hubert James Johnson was born in Clarkston, Washington to Jack and Viola (Clark) Johnson on June 29, 1922. When he was 14, his family moved to Clark County where he continued his education.
After his schooling, Hubert served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, the Merchant Marines and then served in the US Navy from 1942 until his discharge in 1945.
On March 6, 1945 he married Maxine McManus in Vancouver, Washington. They lived in Vancouver, prior to moving to Oregon where they lived in Parkrose and Sandy before making their permanent home in Gresham.
Hubert worked in logging and as a log truck driver and as a truck driver for Bower’s Trucking and Southern Pacific Motor Trucking. He retired in 1982. Hubert was a member of the Vancouver Moose Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors and the activities of hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Maxine Johnson of Gresham; daughter, Brenda Boitano of Vancouver, Washington; sisters, Wanda Swanson of Chehalis, Cathy Johnson of Battle Ground, Mildred Munn and Mary Loomis, both of Vancouver; 2 grandchildren and one great grand daughter.
