Iona Hauff, an Athena resident for over 60 years, died in Gresham, Oregon on January 7, 2010. She was 94.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Athena Cemetery.
She was born Iona Belle White in Tekamah, Nebraska to Fred and Nancy (Bowden) White on April 15, 1915. She was raised in Nebraska where she received her education. In 1936 she married Walter G. Hauff in South Dakota. They lived in Idaho for a short time before moving to Oregon. They lived in Pendleton and in 1948, made their permanent home in Athena. Recently she moved to Sandy, Oregon to live the winter with her son and his family.
Iona was dedicated as a mother and homemaker. She was an involved member of the Athena Christian Church and she enjoyed canning, working in her garden and growing flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1975 and son, Don in 1985. Surviving is her son, Dale Hauff of Sandy; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; her longtime friend and neighbor, Helen Miller.
