Sandy resident, Gene Miles, 77 died at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital on Thursday, December 18, 2008.
A funeral service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
Ivan Gene Miles was born on September 9, 1931 to Alexander and Zella Victoria Miles in Bloomfield, Missouri. They moved to St. Louis Missouri when Gene was five years old, where Gene was raised and attended school.
In 1951, Gene joined the U.S. Marine Corp and was stationed at El Toro Marine Base in California. One year later, Gene was united in marriage to Emma Lee “Bunny” Page in Yuma, Arizona. Shortly after they were married, Gene was sent to Korea for thirteen months then returned to El Toro Marine Base where he was stationed until he was honorably discharge in 1954.
Gene and Bunny made their home in Santa Ana California where Gene was employed at General Motors in Anaheim. They later moved Garden Grove, California where he continued his career with General Motors. In August of 1966, Gene, his wife and children moved to Oregon. They lived in Gresham for a few months and Gene was employed at Electronic Specialty as a Machinist. The family moved Corbett in December of 1966 and three years later, in May of 1969, they moved to Sandy where they made their permanent home. Gene continued at Electronic Specialty until 1971 when he started a new career in Warehousing and Trucking in the Portland and Clackamas areas until retiring in 1992.
Gene loved the outdoor, especially camping trips with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and golfing. For the last several years, he and wife attended Sandy Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Gresham Elks Club.
Gene is survived by his wife Bunny of almost 57 years; his daughters, Victoria J. Fisher of Clackamas and Dianna L. Moss of Gresham; his son, Bryan G. Miles of Sandy;
his brother, Vernon Miles of Florida; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nicole Paige Hatton in September of 2000 of cancer; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
