Sandy resident Jack Gale Smith Thompson died at his home September 2, 2013 just 4 days shy of his 76th birthday.
A Funeral Service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11:30 am with viewing prior to the service starting at 10:30. Committal will be at Willamette National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
Jack was born in Hermiston, Oregon on September 6, 1937 to Pearl (Massengale) and Howard Smith. During his childhood the family lived in several towns throughout Oregon and Washington. Jack graduated in 1955 from Elmira High School in Eugene and immediately joined the Navy Reserve. He married Vida Kaiser on Dec. 28, 1958 in Junction City, OR.
Jack served honorably in the Navy Reserve (Seabees) for 30 years retiring in 1986.
During his time in the Reserve he worked driving truck for various companies in Eugene and Portland and then driving for Troutdale Sand and Gravel for 16 years.
Jack was a member of the Sandy Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and watching football games- he was a very serious Duck fan. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog Annie.
Survivors include his wife Vida; son, Troy; daughters, Tammy Scarlett and Jerrilyn Couturier all of Sandy; sister, Patty Crow of Warrenton and 4 grandchildren.
