Gresham resident and former business owner, Jim Oswald died at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center on Saturday, September 15, 2012. He was 71.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church at 1:30PM Friday, September 21, 2012 with viewing starting at 12:30. Burial will follow at Gresham Pioneer Cemetery.
James Anthony Oswald was born on July 16, 1941 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Robert and Iris (Scott) Oswald. He received his schooling in Minnesota and Colorado. Shortly after high school, he pursued his education at Colorado State University where he received his undergraduate degree in education. While attending college, he met his future wife Joanna. In 1970 he received his Master’s Degree from the University of Oregon.
On July 21, 1964, Jim was united in marriage to Joanna Metz in Chicago, Illinois. In 1966, the family moved to Oregon where Jim was a High School French teacher in Albany. Jim and his family moved to Salem in 1970 and he was employed as a trainer for the Oregon Department of Corrections. It was in 1979 that they moved to Gresham and made their permanent home. In 1978 Jim became the owner and operator of Billards N’ Bagels until retiring in September of 2009. In 2002, his wife Joanna preceded him in death.
On September 26, 2011 Jim married Leticia Muralla. They made their home in East Multnomah County.
Jim is survived by his wife Letty; his daughters, Charlene Oswald and Amy Torres both of Gresham and Jamie La Londe of Fairview; his sister, Lynn Oswald of Texas and 2 grandchildren, Lily and Ricky.
