In Loving Memory Of

James Ardell Westcott

November 12th, 1939 - December 23rd, 2021

Obituary

James passed away at Legacy Mt. Hood, from congestive heart failure. He was 82 years old.

James was born into the family of Ezra and Nina Westcott of Vinton, Iowa. The family moved to Portland when Jim was a few years old and he then attended Ockley Green Grade School and then Jefferson High School.

Upon graduating in 1957, he served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. James was trained as a radioman in the A3-D aircraft. He regularly catapulted from the aircraft carrier, USS Saratoga, over the country of Vietnam, doing reconnaissance. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Portland, where he attended Portland State University for 2 years.

As a youngster, he had enjoyed making things with his hands, which is what led him to becoming a journeyman Elevator Constructor. He worked over twenty-five years for Otis Elevator Company, and later for Fujitech America, constructing elevators, escalators and moving walks.

James and Debra were married in 1978 and welcomed their son Nathan in 1988.

After retiring, James enjoyed fishing in the Sandy River, near his home, and crafting handmade jewelry.

Though James was of small stature, he leaves a large, empty space in the lives of those who knew him.

Rest in Peace, Jim.

Tribute Wall

Though I did not know Jim well, I found him to be a very special and talented individual. He was very skilled with his hands and created beauty in stone and silver, some of which I am wearing today! I was grateful to have met him. He will live on vicariously through Debby and Nate. I am so sorry for your loss, but you can choose those special and happy memories and he will live on in your hearts! God bless you both.
