Portland resident, James Phillips died at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center on Monday, February 14, 2011 after over a 2 year battle with metastatic melanoma.
A celebration of his life will be held at Sandy Grade School on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. A private burial of his cremains will be held at a later date.
James B. Phillips was born on October 23, 1961 in Houston, Texas to John Jr. and Anna (Bolding) Phillips.
James was an accomplished musician and educator. He has served as principal at Sandy Grade School for the last four years where he will be greatly missed by both teachers and students. James received his Undergraduate Degree at University of Texas at Arlington and his Post Graduate Degree at the University of Oregon.
Surviving is his domestic partner of 14 years, Tim Taylor of Portland; his parents, Jack and Ann Phillips of Clarksville, Arkansas; his brother, John Phillips III of Sugarland, Texas and his sister, Dr. Karen P. Fawley of Monticello, Arkansas; 2 nephews and a host of friends, students and associates.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
