Long time Sandy resident, Doug Bartholomew died at his home on Sunday, July 5, 2009. He was 66.
At his request, a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
James Douglas Bartholomew was born on January 27, 1943 in Everett, Washington to Victor and Olive Bartholomew. When Doug was a young toddler his mother died. His father Victor was later re-married to Rose who loved and raised Doug as her own. The family farmed in Texas and Oregon, living in Coos Bay, Eagle Point and Baker City. Doug attended high school in Texas at Jefferson Academy and later worked with his father in farming and oil wells. Doug also worked as a house painter.
In the early 1960’s, Doug moved to Portland where he began his career with Stanley Hydraulic Tools. In 1967, he married Margaret Wilhelm. They were later divorced. Doug pursued his career until retiring in 1988. One year prior to retiring, he married Gudrun “Goodie” Carter in Sandy where they made their home. Not long after retiring, Doug decided to pursue a “new adventure” and drove truck until his health began to decline.
Surviving is Gudrun “Goodie”; his daughters Monica Wilson of Gladstone and Andrea Cooper of Burien, Washington; his step daughter, Michele Dunn of Sandy; his step son, Brad Carter of Redmond; his mother Rose Bartholomew of Ft. Worth, Texas; his sister, Patricia Fulton of San Antonio, Texas; his brothers, Donald Bartholomew of Battle Ground, Washington, Dr. Gary Bartholomew of Fort Worth, Texas and Dr. Kenneth Bartholomew of Hendersonville, Tennessee; 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his father Victor and his sister Virginia.
Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially going out to dinner with them. His grandchildren brought him much joy and he loved telling stories to them. He also enjoyed fishing, gold mining and rock hounding. He was a member of the Sandy Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
