James Edward Massey was born in Buffalo, New York to Clifton and Iris Massey and was raised in Sandy. Jim married Carol Eileen Newberry in August of 1956. Carol passed away in 2001.
Jim is survived by his son, Jeffrey James Massey, his daughter, Brenda Kay Phelps, his siblings, June Iris Unger, Jerry Steven Massey, and Jean Esther Keller. He is predeceased by sons Richard Dean Massey and Gary Lynn Massey and siblingsJoseph Raymond Massey, and Jack Lee Massey.He had 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Jim spent 24 years working for the U.S. Forest Service. He worked 17 years at a “young man's job” for Mt. Hood Rock Products, retiring in 2007. Jim enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, cars, and following racing.Jim was a jack of all trades. He very much enjoyed family gatherings.
There are so many good things to say about Jim, things even people who were his friends didn't realize. It simply cannot be summed up in a small article.
He was a fine man who had to overcome a lot of life's challenges but he always persevered.
We, his family, loved him deeply and he will be greatly missed. Brightwood will never be the same.
