James Howard Lyon

November 1st, 1943 - August 14th, 2012

Obituary

Longtime Sandy area resident James “Jim” Howard Lyon passed away August 14, 2012 from respiratory failure. He was 68.

Jim, the only child of Thomas Jefferson and Neva (Maynard) Lyon was born in Whittier, CA on November 1, 1943. He was raised in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Montebello High School.

Jim and his wife Yvonne moved to the Sandy area in 1987 when Jim accepted a position with Subaru of America as the company’s Port Manager in Vancouver, WA.

A lifelong car enthusiast, Jim built and raced his own hotrods at El Mirage Dry Lake in San Bernardino, CA and in the Bonneville National Speed Trials at Utah’s famous Bonneville Salt Flats where he secured himself a much sought after spot in the Bonneville 200 MPH Club. He is a past president of the Rod Riders Racing Team, Fullerton, CA.

Jim is survived by Yvonne; his two sons, Douglas of Upland, CA and Gregory of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; 3 grandchildren, Peyton, Delaney and James; great grandchild, Aiden; nieces, Camy and Kim; nephew, Manny; grandnephews, Oshea and Manny and innumerable friends and extended family members.

Jim’s family and friends knew him to be a loving husband, a devoted family man, and a gentle friend. He is greatly missed.

My father told me this: "If it's a husband you're looking for, look for the man with kindness in his heart and love for you. If you settle for anything less, you will be miserable for the rest of your life." I waited and God brought me Jim Lyon. He was the finest man I have ever met and the only one I ever wanted to marry. And so I did. He taught me how to live with joy and love unconditionally. I thank God for every moment I shared with him. He is resting in the Lord. Yvonne Yvonne Lyon
Jim will be missed by many of us who enjoyed his tenure with Subaru in Vancouver, WA. Jim was an honorable man. I especially enjoyed his ability to point out just about any car or truck and give me its numerous specific details! I pray that Jim will rest in God's peace! Deb Deb Taylor
