Sandy resident Jim Russell died at his home on June 28, 2016. He was 57. A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sandy on July 11, 2016 at 10:30am with viewing starting at 9:30am and military honors at Willamette National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
James “Jim” Allen Russell was born in Portland, Oregon to Leroy and Sally (Lane) Russell on May 6, 1959. He was raised in the Portland area for 4 years until moving to Sandy where he attended Sandy Grade School and graduated from Sandy Union High, class of ’77. He went to a technical college to study computers and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1978 to 1981.
Jim held a variety of odd jobs, was a paper delivery boy, and eventually worked as a procurement technician for Army Corps of Engineers for 20+ years. Throughout his life he spent time living in Portland, Tri-City area at McNavy Dam, Seattle and Sandy.
He loved to read, liked to drive and explore, was a swimmer and played water polo in high school, enjoyed white water rafting, scuba diving and was very generous and loving to everyone he knew. Jim was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and went on a two-year mission from 1983 to 1985.
Survivors include; parents Leroy and Sally Russell; siblings Kathy Marchant, Lori Cox (Stan), Kelly Russell, Kevin Russell (Andrea); 13 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and great nieces/nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jim’s name to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, any charity of your choice or help someone in need.
