Mr. Ahlberg passed away at a Hospice House in Kennewick, Washington on Sunday, September 20, 2015. He was 85.

James Ralph Ahlberg was born on August 30, 1930 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Clarence and Mildred Ahlberg. He was raised and received his schooling in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Adventist Academy. He then began working at the Sanitarium in Battle Creek until moving to Oregon. He made his home in Portland where he owned and operated a painting business. In the late 1970’s, Jim went to work for Gresham Hospital (Mt. Hood Medical Center) as a painter and carpenter.

In 1982, Jim was united in marriage to Ruth Lundgaard in Washington. They made their home in Sandy and Jim pursued his career at the hospital until he retired in 1996.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, raising his goats, gardening dahlias, fishing and wood carving. Jim had a sweet tooth and always had candy to share with others. He was a lifetime member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife Ruth of Pasco, Washington; his step daughter and son in law, Nancy and David Green of Pasco, Washington; his step son and wife, David and Teresa Kolling of Estacada; his brothers, Donald Ahlberg of Battle Creek, Michigan and Victor Ahlberg of Carthage, Illinois; his sister, Rosalee Kellum of Battle Creek, Michigan; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his step-son Brian Kolling.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Oregon Public Broadcasting.
