Life-long Sandy resident, Janet “Chickie” Bacon died on November 24, 2016 at the age of 77. A funeral service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00am with a burial service following at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.
Janet Elaine Mills Bacon was born in Portland, Oregon on November 21, 1939 to John and Arletha (Proctor) Mills. She attended school in Sandy, graduating from Sandy Union High in 1957. She received a degree in nursing from Good Samaritan School of Nursing and worked at Mt. Hood Medical Center in Gresham and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland. She became Head Nurse of the first Coronary Care Unit in the state of Oregon and spent most of her years as Head Nurse in several ICUs in the Portland/Gresham area. She retired in 2003 and continued to live in Sandy.
Janet was a long-time member of the Sandy Fire Board and started the Sandy Historical Society Quilt Show. She enjoyed quilting, raising dahlias in her garden, knitting and genealogy.
