Jeff died suddenly, and too soon, on August 19, 2016 from a stroke. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Jeff was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Robert and Edith Crook. He attended local schools graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1969. After completing his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan (Go Blue), he earned his law degree from the University of San Francisco. In 1974 Jeff met the love of his life, Pam Giovannini. Together they moved to Oregon and were married in 1978. He opened his law practice in Sandy, Oregon, shortly after. For 36 years Jeff enjoyed practicing law together with Pam, affectionately known as "the boss", who was his secretary and office manager. He was active in the community and volunteered for many causes. Jeff's personable and friendly personality earned him a reputation for having the "gift of gab" and was loved by everyone who knew him. Jeff was so happy to retire in 2014, let his hair and beard grow longer, and continued that which he and Pam loved the most, traveling.
Jeff was an avid lifelong bird watcher and naturalist with a love of the outdoors, gardening, fishing and camping. He and Pam enjoyed traveling together yearly on extended camping trips exploring the outdoors and sharing their love for nature and one another. Jeff, known as "uncle buff" by his nieces and nephews, was active with, supportive of and beloved by his and Pam's families.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Pam Giovannini-Crook, his mother, Edith Crook, his sister, Amy Crook (Jan), and numerous family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Crook.
A private gathering to celebrate Jeff's life was held at his home. There will be another celebration of life for family, friends and community which will be scheduled sometime in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please donate, in Jeff's name, to the Portland Audubon Society, Sandy Library and The Nature Conservancy.
