It was while he was working at the Chevron station that he met his wife, Esther. Esther was a “car hop” at the A & W next to the gas station. Through Esther’s influence while they were dating, Jim came to know the Lord. Esther had 3 children, Vickie, Jim and Penny. Jim & Esther were married in 1962 moved to Springwater and together, they raised the children. Jim was a wonderful husband and father. In 1986, Jim & Esther moved to Gresham to be closer to the kids and grandkids. Jim & Esther served the Lord together faithfully and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 12, 2011. Jim’s greatest asset was his love of people and his sense of humor.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathy at Jim's passing. He was such a nice man. When I was still working at Reliance (Cascade Utilities) he would always stop and visit me when they came to Estacada. I also have fond memories of staying with Penny when we lived at the Golf Course. Esther and Jim were always so nice and made everyone feel welcome in their home. Sue & Tom Klaetsch
I became acquainted with Jim as we were both walkers and frequently I would see him on his way to Jazzy Bagel. It was an honor to know him as he would always be in an uplifting mood. I had told him that I wanted to be in as good of shape as he was (I was 20 years younger). I was sadden to hear of his death and I know he is in a better place. I wish the best to the family at this sad time. Gary Heitz
To Esther and family, Our sympathy and prayers go out and up for you. My mom and I hope to connect with you this weekend at Jim's service. May the Lord bless you and keep you in his peace and give you joy in your being together at this time. I remember Jim's smile and wit and gentle service through many years at Estacada First Baptist and beyond. It was a joy for the Schweitzer family to enjoy his friendship and brotherhood in the Lord. Now Don and Jim can sit down together for a long Biblical discussion in Heaven and finally get it all right, yes? Yours fondly, Ann Schweitzer-Johnson (Don & Alice's) Ann Schweitzer Johnson
So sorry to hear about Jim's passing. He was a very friendly individual who went out of his way to make people feel welcome. He didn't talk much about himself but was always interested in how I was doing. i last saw Jim and Esther at Fred Meyers and had a pleasant conversation with them. Esther, may the Lord surround you with his perfect peace and sustain you through lonely moments. Bill Krieger
