Longtime Sandy resident, Joan Miller passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016.
A Graveside Service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Sandy Funeral Home.
Joan Charlene Jackson was born on May 1, 1936 in Marysville, California to Milburn S. Jackson and Vera Myers Jackson. Joan was united in marriage to Richard Paul Miller on January 1, 1954 in Carson, Nevada and made a home in California where they began their family, re-locating to Sandy in 1969.
Joan had many passions including traveling, gardening and baking. Joan was an avid artist, specializing in pen and ink drawings and was one of the first to display her art at the very first Sandy Mountain Festival. Joan was Queen of the Sandy Mountain Days in 1986. Joan was involved in the Sandy Kiwanis Club, Sandy Chamber of Commerce, and Mt. Hood Hospice. Joan and Richard hosted a summer picnic at their home for over 20 years. On the 150th Anniversary of the Oregon Trail, Joan and Richard shared their property with hundreds of participants for the weekend events. Most importantly, Joan enjoyed spending time with family and her friends in the Sandy community.
Joan is preceded in death by husband Richard Paul Miller, and is survived by her three daughters, Paula and husband Rudy, Peggy and husband Jeff, Peri and husband Mike; granddaughters, Serena, Stephanie and Brianna; great grandchildren, Jocelynn, Alexis, Mason and Jaxon.
