Lifetime Sandy area resident Joan Florence Parker died suddenly on July 26, 2009. She was 79.
Visitation will be held at Sandy Funeral home on Friday July 31, 2009 from 6-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday August 2, 2009 also at Sandy Funeral Home with burial following at Firhill Cemetery.
Joan was born in Sandy May 12, 1930 to Charles and Rosa (Hite) German. She was raised in Sandy and graduated from Sandy High School in 1948. After graduation she married Donald Larry Parker in September 1948. Joan was a member of the first graduating class of Mt. Hood Community College School of Nursing and initially spent many years working at Gresham Hospital. Later she became the nurse for Dr. Leavitt in Sandy.
Joan was very passionate about the Sandy community. She was involved with Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Kelso Helpers, Sandy Grange, Business & Professional Women and many other community organizations.
At the time of her death she was president of the Sandy Rebekah's Lodge and a board member for the Sandy Mountain Festival Association.
Joan is survived by her five children: Pamala Parker of Boring, Robert Parker of Boring, Tricia Schilperoort of Sandy, Vicky Mills of Boring and Bruce Parker of Woodside, CA.; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sandy Community Action Center in Joan’s memory.
