She attended Clackamas High School where she enjoyed playing trumpet in the high school band. She graduated from there in 1957. Joann moved around the area a bit, living in Corbett and Boring until finally settling in Eagle Creek in 1967.

She was a hard worker and eventually got a job as a custodian with the Estacada School District where she worked for 30 years until retiring. After retirement she spent most of her time raising Appaloosa horses on her ranch.
She is survived by her brothers Clifford Anderson of Maupin and Charles Anderson of Las Vegas, NV; nephews Todd and Chuckie Anderson and nieces Deseree Fetters and Andrea Busby. She was preceded in death, in 2008 by Jerry Boerste, her companion of 53 years.
