In Loving Memory Of

John Pyryt

November 30th, 1944 - March 15th, 2022

Obituary

John Pyryt was born November 30, 1944, to Frank and Mary (Kempkowski) Pyryt in Hamtramck, Michigan. He died on March 15, 2022, after a long battle with liver cancer. John served as a radioman in the US Navy, aboard the minesweeper USS Acme. He moved to California and later to Oregon in the 1960’s.

John worked as a night security guard and at Timberline Trailers. When he moved to Sandy, he met the love of his life, Debra Meyer. They married in 1973 and had their son John F. Pyryt. John worked at Reynold’s Aluminum in Troutdale until it’s closing, then went to work at Boyd’s coffee.

John was an avid outdoorsman, with fishing as a high point (which he relayed to his parents, influencing their move to the area.) He also enjoyed camping, hunting, and gardening. He still liked chopping wood later in his life, which he regularly gave away.

Living in the same neighborhood for over 44 years, he was often seen walking his dog and visiting neighbors. He enjoyed adventures with friends, trips home to Michigan, and stopping in states along the way.

John is survived by his wife Debbie, his son John (Stephanie), three grandchildren: Tori, Tyler and Jackson. His sister Janet and brother Jim, and niece JoAnne.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Joe.

Donations can be made in John's name to Mt. Hood Hospice

John was a good friend and neighbor.

He never seemed to mind my solitary nature and when we spoke face to face it was as if no time had passed in between visits. I never told him how much I appreciated that.
He was also very courteous when it came to the property line we shared. He never complained to me about any issues and always offered to help me when he saw me trimming the tree limbs in the yard. This last Fall season he even brought over his chainsaw and cut up a large limb for me. I was worried about his health, yet he seemed happy in that moment so I obliged him the opportunity.

He loved my 2 small dogs and when he came into the back yard he would lay down on the grass to meet them and scratch them. He never complained about their bark. He even visited with them while I was away at work. I'm sure they enjoyed the extra attention.
I always liked that he set up little houses to feed the birds and the squirrels. It is a tradition that I will continue in his absence.
I was out in the evening walking my dogs when I noticed the lights were different in his windows. I knew something had changed and I felt the loss of him.
I will miss him everytime I gaze toward his yard and the spot where he grew tomatos last summer. I will remember his kindness as well as his ability to forgive and overlook the little things.

I will cherish the memories and I will carry them as far as I am able to. Knowing you has made me a better person.
See you later John,
Leland
