In Loving Memory Of

Judy Rae Rieder

October 4th, 1948 - February 4th, 2021

Obituary

Judith Rae Rieder, 72, of Boring, Oregon passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

Born October 4, 1948 in Boring, Oregon, she was the daughter of the late Ralph George and Louis Maxine Houston.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerald Herman Rieder; two daughters, Heather Rieder of Sandy, Oregon and Erin Barton of Gresham, Oregon; sisters Shirley, Gladys and Dori; grandchildren, Jade, Keelan and Emma; and one great-grandchild.

Judy instilled many values in her grandchildren; the golden rule being the most important:  Treat others how you want to be treated.  She had an appreciation for nature and animals.  On hot summer days she would call to the chickadees and then lightly mist them in her tree in the backyard.  Many times, she would see dragonflies or hummingbirds and felt those were her spirit animals. She was strong willed; she would never let money come between family and wasn’t materialistic.  She taught her grandchildren the importance of growing and preserving their own food and always had the them “grazing” among the garden and berry bushes.  There were many inside jokes between her and her grandchildren (eeplepeep, breast foods, peppermint panties) were examples of her saying the wrong thing and the kids grabbing on to those mistakes and making those humorous moments some of the best memories.  She knew how to treat people with respect and love, without complaint, and could cheer her grandchildren up with one word; either by comedy, love; whatever you needed to feel better, she would provide.  She made it important to reach out to the ones she loved and taught her grandchildren the importance of self-care, self-maintenance and making memories.

A private graveside service will be held at Cliff Side Cemetery in Sandy, Oregon.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Mt. Hood Hospice PO Box 1269 Sandy, OR 97055.

I am so sorry to hear of Judy's passing. I loved my cousins from the Boring area. I have fond memories of Uncle George's famiy coming to Weston and the family reunions at their home. The families always said that Judy and I looked most alike. julianne sutherland
