In Loving Memory Of

Julia "Julie" Sylvia Guthrie

June 27th, 1931 - May 16th, 2024

Obituary

Julia “Julie” Sylvia Bartell Morriss Guthrie passed away from this earth and into Christ’s arms on Thursday evening, May 16, 2024. Beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Julie was born June 27th, 1931, in Remer, Minnesota, the 9th (of 17) child to Augustus and Ida Bartell.

Moving to Oregon as a teenager, Julie married Wallace “Wally” Morriss of Gresham on September 4, 1948. Together they had 3 daughters, Karen (b. 1949, d. 2023), Dorothy (b. 1951), and Deborah (b. 1953), before Wally’s passing in 1991. Moving to Olalla, WA in 1999, she later married Ray Guthrie in 2001, who survives her. Julia was grandmother to 5 (Wendi, Reggie, Larry, Jeremy, and Jason), and great grandmother to 9 (Ryan, Katie, Caleb, Cheyenna, Sawyer, Eden, Evan, Reid, and Vivian).

Her surviving family will host a visitation on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Sandy Funeral Home (39551 Pleasant St., Sandy, Oregon) from 10am – 12 noon. A private graveside service will be held where Julie will be laid to rest beside her husband Wally of 43 years and father to her daughters. As a symbol of the immense love and regard in which they hold her, Julie’s family (to include all of her grandchildren) will be coming from every coast of the United States, and also Europe, to pay their final respects and tribute to this amazing woman. Family is encouraged to share any memories of their time spent with Julie.

Julie was an amazing neighbor. I miss her so much. She had a tremendous caring personality. She helped me take care of our neighborhood stray cats. Always feeding them with me and providing them a warm place to stay. She really loved animals. She always complimented my dog Bella who passed away before she did. I hope Bella is greeting her. Along with her lovingness toward animals, she was always so kind and sweet to my kids and myself. Her and her husband Ray gave my children wooden cars that Ray had built. She also would bring me the gorgeous hydrangeas that grew in her yard. I’m almost a year late to hear about her passing, but she’s been on my mind since she left Olalla. Rest peacefully Julie. Thank you for your wise words and kind actions. I’ll never forget you ♡ Kaitlyn Stier
