In Loving Memory Of

Kenneth "Ken" Pickel

August 27th, 1959 - July 15th, 2014

Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Pickel, 54, passed away July 15, 2014, surrounded by family at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a much-loved father, grandfather, husband, son, brother and friend.

Ken was born on August 27, 1959, in Prosser, WA to Jim and Shirley Pickel. His family moved to California when Ken was a young boy, where he was raised and graduated high school in 1977 from Tulare Union High. Ken always had a passion for cars and motorcycles, and started working on cars in high school. After high school, he pursued that passion and excelled in the automotive industry. He was known for miles around for being the best transmission rebuilder there was, eventually owning his own transmission repair shop in Yakima, WA. He was well-respected for being an honest and fair businessman.

He met the love of his life, Debi, in Tulare in 1978, and they were married on March 1, 1980. In 1981, Ken and Debi moved to the Northwest where they raised their three children, Leslie, Kendra and Derick. He loved spending time with his wife and kids, and eventually his six grandchildren. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and they loved their “Papa” to the moon and back. Ken was the epitome of what every father and grandfather should be. He was kind, supportive, understanding, fair, patient, and above all else, he loved his family more than anything in the world. Ken will always live on in his family by the values he instilled, and the examples he set.

Ken is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debi, three children, Leslie (Sergio), Kendra (Dave), and Derick (Cheyenne), six grandchildren, Ashlyn, Alicia, Ana, Colton, Sydney and Ava, his mother, Shirley, and three brothers, Doug, Craig and Mike. Words can’t describe how much Ken will be missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing he’s in heaven with his dad and uncles, listening to music, cracking jokes, and pulling pranks in true Ken Pickel fashion.

A private family service was held at Sandy Ridge Cemetery in Sandy, OR on Friday, July 18, and a public celebration of life took place on Saturday, July, 19.

I have not went through 1 day without missing you and yearning for the dad and husband you were. You will always have my heart 💚 Deborah
Baby, it's been one year, one month and 11 days since you left me. I still can't believe it sometimes. I pretend you will be home waiting when I get off work. Sadly this is the second birthday you have not been here for. We still had 20 years to go. I miss you and will treasure the good and ups and downs we shared. I will always love you <3 Debi Pickel
My journey here without you is going to be long and dark. Not many people here on earth experience true love, and that's what we shared. I know your watching over me, ♥ I will always and forever love you! I do take comfort knowing you are not hurting anymore. Flying free as a bird now! ♥♥♥♥♥ <\3 Debi P

Ken was the greatest brother inlaw, father, husband and Grandfather. He was always funny, caring, the life of the party. I'll always treasure the times that our families spent together, going on trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, and family reunions.
Our trip to Oregon was a somber one, but Ken was a great host and made sure to lift our spirits. We spent a wonderful day on a drive throughout the countryside and up to Mt. Hood and the salmon hatchery. He made a difficult time bearable just being Ken.
He was always cracking jokes and pulling pranks never took the small stuff too serious, lighthearted and yet caring, forgiving and generous. He Loved unconditionally and especially loved his wife, kids and family. His children and grandchildren was his pride and joy.
I will miss you very much Ken. God decided he needed another Angel so he called you home. We can take comfort knowing that you'll be looking down upon us. You've been reunited in Heaven with all those we love and lost. One day we'll all be together again until then rest in peace. Thanks for all the great memories you're truly missed!
Love Always,
Diana
