Had one of those "where are they now" moments, and looked for him on the internet. 40 years ago, I worked with him as a scrub nurse in the OR, and found him exacting and funny and caring and amazingly talented. I have so many memories of him, and I am truly, truly sad he's gone.

Dr Franks performed my L5 ruptured disc in 1982. He was such a personable, caring comedic doctor. He had me laughing several different times during my 7 day stay. I’m currently looking for a Neurosurgeon for
L 5~4~3. Looking for Dr Franks.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I was privileged to meet Larry in France, under very surreal extra ordinary circumstances. We met at the bar and immediatley became friends. Some times in life you meet people who are special, and whose presence and personality fill the room, that was Larry. The biggest hands i have ever seen, and a big man with a big heart.I knew Larry was a great human being straight away and i had a great few days in his company.Rest in peace Larry and il see you on the other side.Respect.

I was a Junior at Centennial High school on the wresting team and suffered a broken neck leaving me a quadraplegic on March 1st 1975 and Dr.Franks was my Surgeon for one of his first major surgerys of that kind. I am holding back my tears while typing this as my gratitude of his skills and abilities help give me my ability to walk again and lead a very successful life! God Bless him and his family as he was a truly exception man as well as a Doctor. Ed French

I am so sorry to read about Dr. Frank's passing. He was my neurosurgeon in the early "80s. He was very good and very accurate! I made him laugh because his hand covered my entire face and 1/2 my head. I asked "And you do brain surgery with those hands? " He stood up, his jaw dropped and said "YES!" We all 3 laughed! My husband was with me. So now they are roommates, Larry and Peter, waiting for us. As always, Sunny G.

I was just talking with my wife about Dr. Franks and my 30 year old memories of working with him in the OR. So I looked him up on the net and was sorry to find notice of his death. He was a good man. We are less without him

Larry was one of the finest friends and roommates I had not only in medical school but throughout my life. We, unfortunately connected only briefly and that in the last year. My thoughts and prayers are to his family, whom I have never met, but he did tell me and show me, by the way he talked about you, how much he loved you. I am glad that I got to participate in a small part of his life.

Dr. Franks was such a wonderful man who loved the Lord, his family, his farm, and helping his patients. He will truly be missed but left such a lasting imprint on others and a beautiful legacy in his wife, children and grandchildren. God Bless his family and I'm so thankful he's in Heaven.

Larry was my cherished friend for over 50 years & Beta Theta Pi fraternity brother at Northwestern University. He loved his Alaskan fishing expeditions ... and was truly a dedicated fisher of men! ✝ May God bless Larry and his family and keep them in His Care.

Condolences to the family of Dr. Larry Frank's family. As a member of the class of 1969 at Nothwestern University Medical School, I know how hard we all worked to earn our degree and profession with residency and fellowship training afterwards. I am particularly distressed by the stresses both mentally and physically our profession takes on our families and our bodies! Words can not express the sorrow I feel for your family. Respectfully, Trent W Nichols Jr MD

My sincere condolences for your loss. Larry was a medical school classmate of mine, Grad. in 1969. We also were residents at Northwestern as well-- I went into OB-GYN and stayed in private practice at the medical school.. With fond memories of our time together--

My deepest sympathy to Dr Franks' wife and family. I worked with Dr Franks at Adventist for many years and always felt his love and concern for all of his patients. He was one of the best surgeons at Adventist as well as a gentle and compassionate physician. I shall always remember him with a great smile and booming laugh. God blessings and peace be with you all.

Larry was certainly an intelligent, compassionate person. Knowing him in medical school was a privilege. My thoughts are with his family at this time

Larry was a really special guy and I have often thought of him as a real "gentle giant" who put up with us smaller guys. I am sure he was a credit to his family and community as he was to NUMS.
Ronald Weinger, NUMS class of 1969
Since our boyhood days, playing baseball or basketball on family visits, or horsing around, or having Larry and his sister Sharon try to teach me to waterski at the Franks's Lake Powers boatarama, and more, my cousin Larry has been "the good guy"--always honest, interested, fun, fair, and a little goofy. He never had a bad word about anybody, was always curious about the world, and knew how to love without condition, as his love for his beautiful Ulrike and five children showed in so many ways. And he could appreciate the simple things in life, which for him were the wonders of God's creation and human happiness. What joy he got from feeding the animals and making things grow. And more. The good memories abound. And that will always be Larry, for he was and is memorable in the best ways. With deepest sympathies to Ulrike and all, and thanks for sharing Larry with us. Randy and Linda

We first met in 1974 (developing a bond through friendly rivalry) and recently reconnected as though the intervening 40 odd years had never happened.

As one of Larry's neurosurgical mentors in London, Ontario, Canada during which time we spent many hours tot getter, day and night, I became very fond of him and was impressed by his surgical ability. Our paths crossed over the years at neurosurgical meetings at which time we would exchange information on our careers, families, hobbies and eventually, plans for the future. I was distressed to hear from Alex Kleider of Larry's brief but fatal illness. Larry always seemed so happy, full of life and very healthy. Although he enjoyed several years of retirement, he and his family should have enjoyed many more years together. My wife and I extend to them our sincere sympathy. Hugh WK Barr
