Obituary

Larry T Alexander, 71 of Boring OR passed away on Sunday February 12, 2017 from respiratory failure and complications of Parkinson’s disease. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 3rd at 10 am at Hollyview Family Baptist Church 14095 SE 257th in Damascus, OR.
Larry was born in Portland, OR in 1945 to Cyrus & Dorothy Alexander. He lived the majority of his life in Boring. He attended grade school in Damascus & graduated from Madras OR High school.
Larry held a number of jobs throughout his life, starting by bucking hay to harvesting mint to working in the plywood mill & doing repossessions for a bank. He was also an ambulance driver for Buck Ambulance Co. He worked in construction & later had his own construction Company. He loved running heavy equipment, using backhoes & dump trucks. He also became a private investigator & bought his own investigation company which he ran for several years. Larry and his wife, Carol purchased and operated a business selling police equipment & building surveillance vans in conjunction with the investigation company. In 2000 he went to work for the Boring Water District becoming the manager within the first year. He worked there until his retirement in 2015. He took pride in updating the system & securing grants for needed equipment & improvements. After only 2 weeks of retirement, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease & broke his neck which started a downhill slide of health problems. He fought hard, but never fully recovered.
Larry loved his hometown of Boring & was involved in many community activities. He was a member of the Friends of the Boring Trailhead Park Association & worked hard to help raise money for the building of a community park & playground. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years.
In 1974 he married his wife Carol & they celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary last October. Larry had many interests, including hunting, fishing, camping, reading, cooking, decorating at Christmas & especially growing vegetables in his many gardens. He was a softie for dogs & kids.
Larry is survived by his longtime wife & partner Carol Alexander of Boring. His Son Chris 39 & daughter-in-law Laura of Boring. His sister Charlene Kline (Sonny) of Bend. Brothers Kent Alexander (Sara) of Madras & Neil Alexander (Marcie) of Oregon City. Uncle & Aunt Richard & Dyann Alexander of Gresham. Brothers-in-law Monte Muller of Gresham, Mike Bechtel (Karen) of Gresham, Ron Muller (Mary) of Caldwell Idaho, Kelly Bechtel of Cove OR. Daughter Delores Morrison of Bend & Son Keith Alexander (Janette) of Bend. Many, many Nieces, Nephews, Grandchildren, extended family & friends (too many to mention). Larry was preceded in death by his beloved Parents & Grandparents and in 2015 he lost his stepson Craig Thorsen 48 of Boring OR who had become his son when he married Carol when Craig was only 5.

Larry was such a giving person and we will remember him for his kindness, humor and easy manner. Our hearts go out to Carol and Chris and we want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Hi Guys..... Just as you, I am still reeling from this. So sorry . Loved Larry. He was quite a guy. He did soooo much for Big Valley when we got bought out !! It was great to be on his team....fighting corporations !! He was someone who would stand up to the man. You gotta be proud. Tom Tom Newell

Larry was our neighbor for the four years we were blessed to know him. He had a huge heart and was very compassionate to other people. My four children concidered him a step grandpa and loved him very much. Larry will be truly missed to our family but as my son Andrew said in a letter to Larry " we will miss you but I think god needed you to mow his lawn" We love you Larry and feel blessed to have had you in our lifes and will be forever remembered in our hearts Loucks family Matthew Loucks
