Sandy resident Lawrence Terrill died at his home on June 3, 2010 where he resided for 57 years. He was 87.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday June 9, at Sandy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Lawrence Donald Terrill was born to Charles C. and Mabel (Holybee) Terrill in Montrose, Colorado on May 26, 1923. He received his schooling and was raised on his parents homestead in Disappointment, Valley, Colorado. He worked as a sheep ranch hand for his father.
On April 4, 1944 he married Bertha L. Smith in Portland. They moved to Sandy to make their permanent home and raise their family. Bertha preceded him in death in 1984.
Lawrence enjoyed his work as a logger. He was employed with Les Wallace, Dick Maronay, Russell Graves and retired from Lydell Reed in 1982. Besides his full time career as a logger, he owned and operated L.D. Terrill Nursery.
He loved the outdoors ~ hunting, raising fish in his pond and caring for the wildlife on his property. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and visiting with anyone he came in contact with. He also enjoyed drinking R & R.
Surviving is his companion of 24 years, Elizabeth Matheny of Sandy; daughter, Shirley Barstad and husband, Ken of Estacada; sons, Donald and wife Linda of Sandy, Norman, Sr. and wife, Geraldine of Boring and Eldon Terrill of Boring; daughter in law, Lois Terrill of Portland; step daughter, Elaine Overton of Sandy; brother, Frank Terrill of Dillon Montana; 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; his extended family, Mike Matheny of Portland, Pat Matheny of Sandy, Nancy and husband Doug Worlein of Scappose; Travis and Kevin Matheny. He is preceded in death by his son Melvin Terrill in 2001.
