Sandy resident and former long-time Gresham resident, Lillien “Lil” Loraine Rogstad, 86, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011.
A memorial service for Lillien will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Sandy Funeral Home in Sandy, OR. Private inurnment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Lillien was born October 30, 1925, to Joseph and Tonette (Marsh) Johnson in Stanley, North Dakota. She was one of fourteen children and was raised in Stanley. She married Sam Rogstad on February 12, 1943 and they moved to Los Angeles, CA, where they had a son, Myron Rogstad. After World War II, they moved to Portland and then to Gresham, OR. Lillien was a homemaker and briefly worked at a book binding company in Portland.
Lillien loved her family and loved to take care of them. She enjoyed cooking and would make a meal and a cup of coffee at any hour. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her Granny. She and Sam were also considered “grandparents” to a lot of their grandchildren’s friends. Many of her siblings and in-laws lived in the Portland area and she enjoyed getting together with them to talk or play cards. She also enjoyed dancing and music. She played the piano and the accordion and played in her brother’s band, the Doc Johnson Silver Moon Band, as a young woman.
Lillien is survived by her sisters Sallie Sackett and Millie Lillegarde; son Myron and wife Linda; grandson Troy Humphreys and wife Mary; grandson Tony Humphreys; grandson Darren Humphreys and wife Shannon; grandson Kelly Rogstad and wife Suzanna; grandson Kyle Rogstad and wife Lisa; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Sam in 2002.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cascadia Village in Sandy, OR, for the excellent care they provided for Lillien in the last seven years.
