Longtime Sandy resident, Joe Boswell died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 of a rare brain disease. He was 79.
A family graveside service was held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Cliffside Cemetery. A Memorial Service was held at the Community Presbyterian Church in Sandy on Saturday June 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
Lloyd Joe Boswell was born on September 23, 1933 in Sulphur Rock, Arkansas. He was raised and received his schooling near Sulphur.
Shortly after graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Navy on April 2, 1952. On June 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Barbara Morrison. Joe was honorably discharged on February 7, 1956.
Joe and Barbara made their permanent home in Sandy and built their home where they raised their family. Joe was employed for the City of Portland Water Bureau until retiring in 1988. Joe enjoyed his retirement years flying airplanes, his ultralight and the helicopter that he built. Joe also enjoyed re-building and restoring old equipment. Each year, he looked forward to he and Barbara driving their 1946 John Deer Tractor in the Sandy Mountain Festival Parade and the Estacada Parade.
Surviving is his wife Barbara of almost 61 years; his son, Duane Boswell of Grass Valley, Oregon and Doyle Boswell of Sandy; his daughter, Wanda Schlaht of Sandy; 7 granddaughters and 5 great grandsons. He is preceded in death by his son Gary Boswell and his great grandson Zayden Boswell.
