Former Gresham and Sandy resident, Lorrene Griffin went to her Eternal Home to be with her Savior Thursday, December 6, 2012 in Battle Ground, Washington. She was 89.
A Funeral Service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sandy on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A committal service will follow at Firhill Memorial Cemetery.
She was born, Lorrene Louella Katzberg to Louis and Arlene (Payne) Katzberg on August 10, 1923 in Prosser, Nebraska, the oldest of 10 children. On September 23, 1923, she was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Prosser. At the age of 14, the family moved from Nebraska to Oregon and settled in the Gresham area where Lorrene was raised and received her schooling. After graduating from Gresham High School, she worked at Jantzen Knitting Mills in the office.
Lorrene was confirmed in 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sandy. She later met her future husband Harvey there.
On March 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harvey Griffin at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home in the Cottrell area where they worked on the family farm together. She enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables and did a lot of canning. Besides caring for her family, she worked part time at Gresham Berry Growers.
Lorrene is survived by her daughter, Wilma Arnold of Battle Ground, Washington; her sisters, Lorretta Katzberg and Leatha McIntosh both of Tigard; her brothers, Lamar Katzberg of Portland, Leslie Katzberg of Gresham and Lloyd Katzberg of Corbett; 1 grandson, Jeremiah “Dan” and his fiancé, Kim Smithson and 3 great granddaughters, Cheyanne, Dallis and Corinna. She is preceded in death by her husband Harvey and her son in law, Dan both in 1990, her sister, Loudella Wagner; her brothers, Louis, Lane and Lavern Katzberg.
