Bob DeBatty died peacefully on October 3, 2011 at Avamere in Sandy. He was 88.
A memorial service will be held at Avamere at Sandy at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.
Lucian Robert DeBatty was born in Oaklawn, Illinois to Robert and Bertha (Lahone) DeBatty on September 13, 1923. He was raised in the Chicago area where he received his schooling. He attended aeronautical college after graduating high school.
Robert married Jeanne Francis Knowles in 1953. They settled in Berwyn, Illinois where they raised their family. Robert worked in the Chicago area for Ford Aerospace and then later became an independent contractor involved in aircraft engine construction. In 1982 he moved to Southern California where he remained until 2009 when he moved to Sandy to be near his son. His career in electrical engineering led him to many places around the world over the years where he was involved in improving technology in a variety of manufacturing facilities, including the Tillamook Cheese Factory.
His hobbies included golfing and building fixed wing model airplanes out of balsa wood.
He is survived by his four sons; Robert DeBatty of Ojai, California, James and his wife, Marie DeBatty of Sandy, John of Chicago, Illinois, and William and his wife, Debra DeBatty of Salt Lake City, UT; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter Ann in 1966 and his wife Jeanne in 2004.
