Gresham resident, Lucile “Lucy” Ulrich, died in a Gresham care center on June 22, 2011. She was 88.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sandy. Burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery. Viewing will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00.
She was born Lucile Viola Fuerstenau in Belfield, North Dakota on October 27, 1922 to Emil and Eliza (Ziebarth) Fuerstenau. She began her schooling in North Dakota and at the age of 13, she moved with her family to Oregon where they made their home on a farm at Sandy Ridge. After graduating from Sandy High School, Lucy moved to Portland and was employed at Standard Insurance. She later worked at the Gresham Outlook doing advertising layout until retiring.
In 1947 she was married to Floyd Wagner in Sandy. They lived in Gresham where they began their family. They were later divorced.
On June 26, 1969, she married Hugo Ulrich at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sandy. They remained at their home in Gresham until 8 years ago when moving to their home at Fairlawn Health Care.
Lucy was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and actively involved in teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible School, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and other church committees. She was an avid photographer and enjoyed flowers, bowling on the Church league, playing ping pong with her grandchildren and playing card games and especially spending time with her family. While at Fairlawn, she enjoyed playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, coloring and going on outings. At the age of 86, Lucile caught her first fish.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Surviving is her husband, Hugo of Gresham; daughters, Jerelyn Carlson of Troutdale, Marsha Plucar of Portland and Nadine Cearley of Chinook, Washington; brothers, Maynard Fuerstenau of Bend and Leonard Fuerstenau of Battle Ground, Washington; 7 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren.
