Lucille Marie Burrows, beloved mother, sister, and wife, passed away at her home in Madras, Oregon on the morning of Monday, Feb. 21, 2022. She was 70 years old.
Lucy was born on July 25, 1951, in Burbank, California to Harry and Julia Burrows. She grew up in North Hollywood, California with her siblings Laura, Linda, and Gordon. At 9 years old, she accepted Jesus into her heart and was baptized at Van Nuys First Baptist Church, beginning her lifelong relationship with her savior, Jesus.
She married Kenneth Ortega on April 14, 1973, in Sepulveda, California and they had two daughters, Julia and Jacquelyn. Lucy devoted herself to raising her girls.
In 1987, the family moved to Central Oregon. After the girls were grown, Lucy went back to school at Oregon State University to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2005. She was a lifelong learner, always researching, reading, and taking copious notes on topics that interested her.
Later in life, Lucy loved gardening and caring for her stunning petunias and houseplants. She enjoyed baking, beautifying her home, reading, birdwatching, and shopping online. She loved dining out or having barbecues in the backyard. She enjoyed the company of her sisters, as well as her in-laws and their families. Her devoted canine companion, Summer, could always be found by her side. Her inner strength shone through in both her devotion to her God and her determination throughout her multiple bouts of illness.
Lucille is survived by her sisters, Linda Robinson and Laura Burrows; her husband, Kenneth Ortega Smith; her two daughters, Julia Meyer and Jacquelyn Martin; and her three grandchildren.
Lucille was laid to rest March 28, 2022 at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
