Long time Sandy resident Luzelle Althea Waibel died on July 20th, 2017 In Gresham Oregon at the age of 92 years old.
Luzelle was born on June 18th, 1925 in Lafayette, Oregon to Fred and Estella Bunn. She was raised and went to school in Willamina, Oregon and graduated high school in in 1943.
On July 12th 1943, Luzelle married Bert Waibel who was also from Willamina. During the following years, she raised five children and enjoyed this season of life. In 1958, Luzelle and Bert moved their family to Sandy, where they spent many years involved in the community and their church activities.
At the age of 52, Luzelle decided to pursue her dream of becoming a registered Nurse. In 1982, she graduated from University of Portland with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. She then attended Good Samaritan School of Nursing – Linfield College, and graduated with a BSN in 1984. She spent many enjoyable years using her nursing skills working as a Registered Nurse in various different hospitals in the area. Her favorite work as a nurse was as a Home Health Nurse at Portland Adventist Hospital, as well as with Mt. Hood Hospice.
She is survived by her five children; Jack Waibel of Brookings, OR, LaDonna Weir of Lincoln City, OR, Terry Waibel of Milwaukie, OR, Dale Waibel of Gresham, OR, Debbie Ball of Palm Springs, CA; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Mt. Hood Hospice, PO Box 1269, Sandy, OR, where she gave years of loving compassionate care to her patients.
