A Funeral Service for Margaret Sexton will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Margaret Eleanor Polhamus was born on April 1, 1923 in Syracuse, New York. She was born to Frederick Polhamus and Clara May Pike Polhamus the second youngest of seven children. Margaret’s father was an inventor and farmer. She was raised in rural upstate New York.
Margaret was a war time bride to Wilson Hillock Barrett. During the 2nd World War Margaret worked to help support the war effort while Wilson served in the army. Margaret has seven children. The family moved to California in 1962. Margaret and Wilson divorced after twenty-five years of marriage.
On May 30, 1969, Margaret was married to her soul mate Howard Leroy Sexton. Howard adopted the four youngest children. Margaret and Howard have enjoyed a life time love story.
Howard, Margaret and family moved to the Portland area in 1974. They both worked at Boeing in Portland. In 1985, Margaret and Howard moved to Sandy where they made their permanent home.
Margaret enjoyed square dancing, sewing, ceramics and crafts. Her zest for life and adventuresome spirit where displayed in her travels. Performing with Sandy Silver Tones singing group was a delight for Margaret. Margaret and Howard attended Sandy Baptist Church. Margaret went home to be with Jesus on January 14, 2012.Margaret was ushered to the Saviors’side with dignity at home with her daughter and son law caring for her in Damascus.
Margaret is precedent in death by her sons James George Barrett and Philip Wilson Barrett and her daughter, Susan Profit.
Survived by husband, Howard Sexton of Oregon, Shirley Hans of California, Daniel Sexton of California, Susan Miller of Idaho, Jerry Sexton of California, Sharon Shillinger of Georgia, Marsha Messner of Oregon and Tim Sexton of Oregon; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
