Margaret Jean Proctor died in Gresham on August 12, 2009. She was 88.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Pleasant Home United Methodist Church located on Bluff Road on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. A private burial was held at Douglass Pioneer Cemetery.
Margaret was born July 20, 1921 in Gresham to Lawrence Ernest and Margaret Jean (Herilhey) Jessen. She was raised in the Gresham area attending Orient Grade School and then graduated from Gresham High School in 1939. Soon after graduation she attended Business College in Portland where she improved her secretarial skills. She worked at several jobs in the Gresham/Portland area over the years, most of them in the retail industry.
In 1946, Margaret was married to John Walker Proctor. They started their family and stayed in the Portland, Gresham and Sandy areas for the most part with one brief move to Redmond but returned back to the Orient area.
Margaret loved to sew and was exceptionally good at sewing clothing without even using a pattern. Her skill at construction extended from clothing to building and remodeling. She drew plans for her own barn that she had built and was known to complete rather involved remodeling and decorating projects on her own. She loved reading and baking with her grandchildren. Margaret was a member of the Pleasant Home Methodist Church since the 1950’s and was involved in several of the women’s ministries there over the years. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and volunteered at Oral Hull Foundation for the Blind.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Vollmer; 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Contributions can be made in Margaret’s name to the Pleasant Home United Methodist Church.
