A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 on April 28, 2012 at Hoodland Lutheran Church. The service will be followed by a reception at the Lions Club in Welches.
She was born Marguerite Lucille Housman on September 9, 1923 to Herbert F. and Helen R. (Covas) Housman in Los Angeles, California. Lucille was raised in L.A., completing her high school years at St. Mary’s Academy and then attending college for 2 years at Mount St. Mary’s College.
On March 21, 1943 Lucille wed Gerard “Jerry” Tholen at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in the Los Angeles area and started their family, remaining there until 1967. They moved to Kansas City in 1967 and Lucille began what turned into a 15 year career with TWA as an Airline Revenue Accountant. In 1982 she retired from TWA and she and Jerry moved back to California settling in Vista. In 1990 they moved to Brightwood to live closer to two of their daughters.
Lucille’s main priority was always her family. She loved cooking, weekly family dinners, playing bridge and bingo at the Lions Club. She also enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts- especially ceramics and beading.
She was involved in her community with St. John’s Catholic Church, Hoodland Lutheran Church, the Hoodland Women’s Club, Mt. Hood Lion’s Club and the Hoodland Seniors.
Survivors include her daughters, Jeri Gallagher of Brightwood, Kathy Coleman of Davis CA, Dee Tholen of Welches, Mary O’Dea of Zig Zag; sons Dan Tholen of Welches and John Tholen of Lee’s Summit, MO; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The family suggests contributions be made to Mt. Hood Hospice or the Hoodland Senior Center.
