September 3rd, 1925 - January 25th, 2015

Obituary

Marjorie Rose Russell, 89, died January 25, 2015 at 7:30 in the evening at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Marjorie was born in Welcome, Minnesota, September 3, 1925, the daughter of Emil and Ella Wohlenhaus. Times were hard during the depression. With her brother too young, Marjorie helped her father on the farm. When the war broke out, their one hired hand had to go to war. For taking his place, she received the “A” for Agriculture Award from the War Department.

Marjorie was married to Mr. Kenneth K. Russell on September 15, 1947 and moved to Portland, Oregon, settling in the Irvington School District. Born to this union were 2 boys and 2 girls. Marjorie was proud of her business The Brass Needle that she owned and operated for 30 years with the help of her family. She also helped to raise two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

She is survived by her children, Jennie Rose Mauer, Richard Lowell Russell, Laura Eloise Wasson, and James Wesley Russell; 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her mother Ella and father Emil Wohlenhaus, step mother Alice, sisters Nellie Flohrs, Gerry Dworshak, Marcella Sawyer, Della Bicking and her brother Tom Wohlenhaus, and one great grandchild Elizabeth Marie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 on Saturday February 7th, 2015 at the Sandy Funeral Home in Sandy, Oregon. Officiating will be Mrs. Kathy Hjelm. Immediately following the service, Internment will be at the Sandy Ridge Cemetery on Hwy 211. A Celebration of Life “potluck” will be held at the Sandy Senior Center after the services. All are invited to join the friends and family.
