Longtime Eagle Creek resident, Martha Huggins passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009. She was 76.
A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of Sandy Funeral Home on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Willamette National Cemetery. A viewing will be held prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m.
She was born, Martha Jane Block on May 13, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Russell and Chloe (Gatlin) Block. She began her elementary education in Illinois. As a teen, the family moved to Canoga, California. She remained in Canoga after graduating from high school and worked as a waitress. In 1955, Martha moved to Oregon where she met her future husband, Arnold. They were united in marriage on July 26, 1958. They made their home in Gladstone for a time prior to moving to Eagle Creek where they raised their family and made their permanent home. Martha worked as the Church secretary for many years until retiring in the late 1990’s.
Martha “Mama” enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the casino, doing all types of crafts, crocheting, collecting labels, going fishing with her husband and gardening. She was an active member of the Eagle Creek Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Sandy VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and will be remembered as a woman full of life who treasured each moment.
She is survived by her husband Arnold of 51 years; her daughters, Melody Cazares of Vancouver, Washington, Molly Emery of Portland and Chloe Huggins of Eagle Creek; her brothers, David Block of LaCenter, Washington and Michael Genzel of Canby; her sister, MaryLou Castrey of Vancouver, Washington; 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Wayne.
