Matthew John Foster was born on June 2, 1973 in Spokane, Washington to Donald E. and Sara A. (Sowle) Foster. He was raised and received his schooling in Spokane and throughout his high school years at Lewis and Clark High School, Matt ran cross country. He attended Southwestern Conservative Baptist Bible College in Phoenix, Arizona where he met his future wife Anna.
On June 13, 1992, he was united in marriage to Anna Bailey in Boring. They made their home in Spokane where Matt worked in construction at Cavalier in Radon Mitigation. In 1995, they returned to Oregon and lived in the Boring and Estacada areas and Matt furthered his education at Clackamas Community College and served an apprenticeship through the Association of General Contractors. He received his associates of applied science with a certificate in industrial contracting and his degrees in forming, framing and finish carpentry with the title of journeyman carpenter. He was employed at Colamette, Contractor's Inc., and later at Gray Purcell until 2007 when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer, a Glioblastoma Multiforme. During his many years of employment at Gray Purcell, he enjoyed chairing the safety committee, moved his way up the ladder to superintendent and dreamed of becoming a building inspector.
Matt was a devoted husband and father and committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and to living by example a life of integrity and honor to show his four sons how real men live. He and his wife served in ministry together at Five Mile Community Church in Spokane, Barton Community Baptist Church in Boring and for the last 7 years at Sandy Baptist Church. Matt enjoyed hiking, bicycling, reading and music. He and his wife Anna sang in the choir and did special music throughout their marriage. Matt also enjoyed and spent time collecting and reading maps, but his greatest loves and priorities were his family, serving Christ and music.
Surviving is his wife, Anna; his four sons; Benjamin, Elliot, Christian, and Gideon; his parents, Donald and Sara Foster; his siblings, David Foster, Stephen Foster, Leslie Ramos, and Oscar Foster.
