Long time Boring resident Merle Dean Stotts passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on July 21, 2010. He was 89.
Services will be held on Monday July 26, 2010. A graveside service will be held at Cliffside Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Sandy Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Sunday July 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sandy Funeral Home.
Merle was born in Englevale, Kansas to Melvin and Minnie (Cusic) on April 1st, 1921. He was raised in Pittsburg Kansas.
The family moved to California when Merle was a teenager and there he met his future wife Inez Camp. They were married on July 25, 1941 in Lewiston, Idaho. Merle and Inez soon moved to Oregon and settled in the Boring area.
Merle was drafted into the Army during WWII. He served as a Military Policeman in England, Normandy, France and the Rhineland and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. After returning from the war he worked as a plasterer for 34 years in the Portland area. He was also a berry farmer.
Merle enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, camping and tinkering in his shop. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Inez; daughters, Bev Jones of Sandy and Dianna Lindroth of Boring; sons, Brad Stotts of Damascus and Stan Stotts of Boring; sister, Lavon Haggerty of Boring; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren with one more on the way. Merle was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Moffet and Ileen Minyard.
