Michael Duard Smith, 78, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018 in Gresham, Oregon. He was the husband of Carolyn Jean Pence. They met on a blind date and shared 55 years of marriage together.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the son of Belmont Duard Smith and Lela Rae Ward. He lived in Utah and Idaho, but spent his teenage years in Eaton, Ohio. Michael graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA). He worked for various agencies, including National Cash Register in Dayton, Ohio, Eaton Corporation and Liquid Carbonic, both located in Cleveland, Ohio. Michael and Carolyn raised their family in North Olmsted, Ohio.
Michael was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known as a generous friend and prankster.
Michael is survived by his wife, Carolyn, daughters Teresa Redd (Ty), Lisa Kijowski (Brian), Debbie Herdman (Tug), son Aaron Smith (Sydney), 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, with another one due in July. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Belmont Purdy Smith and Ray Ward Smith, and a grandson, Nathan Grimshaw.
Michael had a testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, loved his family and served his fellowman in every way he could. He leaves behind a great legacy of love and laughter. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
