It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Jerome Hobbs, age 73, on January 1, 2022, eight days following a shocking pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Anyone who was fortunate to know Mike appreciated his gentle soul and generosity. While he was soft spoken, he was straightforward and very social. He never knew a stranger, always showing kindness and interest in everyone he met. He was a humble, easy going, honorable, hardworking, Godly man with a subtle wittiness and calming presence that will be deeply missed.
Mike was the youngest of 11 born in Paducah, KY, to the late Charles and Maureen Hobbs. As a child his family relocated to Southern California where he remained until early adulthood. For the past 42 years he fondly called Oregon home.
Mike was a respected tool and die shop owner with retirement never entering his mind. He established Die Masters in 1980 and proudly worked beside his son Dustin for the last 24 years. He had an engineering mind that could creatively figure out anything - except how to turn on the TV or text from his flip phone. He was a road warrior and whether he was exploring Europe or RV’ing around the United States, he was up for any journey at any time. He loved to golf and as a master craftsman he loved his home and any projects that came with it. He seemed equally happy no matter where he was or what he was doing, especially if he had a cup of coffee in hand.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Mike was a true patriarch. He was and forever will be treasured by his wife Karen who he shared an amazing 50 years of committed love that was rooted in respect and admiration and filled with many adventures. He was a selfless, patient, and dedicated family man to his children and their spouses, Michael and Patsy Hobbs, Michelle King, Amy and Willie Gray, Dustin and Jazzy Hobbs, and Nathaniel and Melissa Hobbs; along with his grandchildren, who lovingly refer to him as Grampie or Framps, Eric (preceded in death), Gabriel, Kaitlyn, Taylor, Cameron, Kingston, and Ellyssi; his great grandchildren Brendan and Lilliana; and his adoring granddoodle Bailey.
