In Loving Memory Of

Michael Morton Hawthorne

December 6th, 1936 - May 10th, 2014

Obituary

The most loving husband, father, brother and son, Michael Hawthorne of Rhododendron, left us on May 10, 2014. He was 77.

Michael loved to bake and cook gourmet meals. He and his wife Carol operated “Michael’s Bread and Breakfast” in Welches for many years where the local residents as well as the flatlanders would line up for Michael’s cinnamon rolls. He most recently helped Tollgate Bakery in Sandy get established and many of his recipes are still being used.

Michael loved spending time in the kitchen and reading cookbooks. His outdoor hobbies were fishing and hunting and he made several trips to Alaska to fish, having a ball and shipping the fish home.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; sons Jim and Jeff; daughter Trina; stepchildren Lynn, Kaye, Nichole and Russell Watts; sister Regina. Michael also has several grandchildren and great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.

Michael will be missed by many.

Hey there. This is Roberta Baldridge's daughter Courtney. I was talking about the amazing food I miss so much from the Bread & Breakfast, which got me looking online and I discovered your great loss. I am so sorry to hear of this, but I wanted to take a minute to say thank you for all of the wonderful memories growing up and eating the biscuits and gravy with my parents and the best cinnamon rolls on this planet! So many of my good childhood memories revolve around your business and food and I will long for a half order of the biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns and a sparkling apple cider for the rest of my life! I also appreciate your support to my mother through so much struggle and pain! You guys were a big part of her life, and though I was much too young to know personally, it always seemed like you had her back. Anyhow...again I am so sorry to find out the sad news, but I had to take a minute and say thank you for the memories that get me through when I miss my mom and my childhood so much! Feel free to find me on FaceBook or email me with any news of how things are going, as I would love to know! Courtney Atkeson (Roberta's Daughter)
