Michael was the youngest of 3 boys born to Mike & Dorie. Michael lived in Sandy his entire life. As a child Michael enjoyed playing in the woods behind the house with his brothers and countless friends. Building forts, playing in the mud, pinecone wars, paintball and countless activities were always on the agenda. Michael was adventurous, he had little fear when it came to adventure, and always had a positive attitude no matter the situation. He lived his life going with the flow of things. He was passionate and enjoyed many activities and hobbies such as golf, kayaking, frisbee golf, hunting, camping, boating, hiking, art, wood working and motorcycles. Michael led a very active and fulfilling life through the years, always seeking a new adventure.
Michael attended Kelso, Bull Run, and Firwood Grade Schools, Cedar Ridge Middle School, and Sandy High School. Through these years he met countless friends that he considered his brothers and family. In school, Michael found his passion for art, always drawing and painting anything that popped into his mind. He earned awards for his beautiful drawings and paintings. In high school, he gained a passion for pottery, he eventually set up his own pottery studio in his mother's garage. This is where he spent countless hours crafting one-of-a-kind cups, bowls, plates, vases, and countless other pieces of art that he gave away to everyone he loved, most of which are still used to this day.
Once Michael graduated Sandy High School, he made a career in construction. Working within the commercial sector remodeling and building gas stations, carwashes, and convenience stores. He then moved into the carpenters union where he worked on banks, skyscraper condominiums and office buildings within the Portland area. Eventually, he decided that he wanted to work for himself in residential construction as a general contractor. He remodeled numerous homes and multifamily apartments.
Michael loved working in his garage, doing custom wood and metal work, always sharpening his craft. He made countless, priceless gifts for loved ones out of wood, metal, and epoxy. Michael had a born talent for art, and a natural gift of working with his hands. He would take old stumps and chunks of tree trunk where he would mill, saw, sand and epoxy into masterpieces. He made everything from custom wall art to coffee tables, desks, wind chimes, and charcuterie boards.
If Michael had a vision to put on paper, paint onto canvas, mold into clay, carve into wood, or weld from steel, he would make it with his own unique Michael style. One of a kind.
Michael is survived by his father, Michael Montgomery, mother, Dorie Dodson, brothers Robert, and Jonathon Montgomery; Nephew JD Montgomery: Nieces Lilyanna and Madison Montgomery and Grandmother, Cecile Dodson, all of Sandy, Oregon.
