Michael “Mike” Thad Nicholson, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Sandy on August 6, 2016.
Mike was born November 30, 1939 in Hermosa Beach, California to Jack and Jean Nicholson. He attended both Portland Adventist Elementary and Portland Union Academy. He married the love of his life, Sally Baker, and together they had three children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren (and one more on the way).
Mike was a retired building contractor. He constructed custom homes all over the greater Portland area. He built local notable buildings such as Firwood Medical Center and the Sandy Post Office among many others.
He was a former Sandy Volunteer Firefighter and he owned and ran the Sandy ambulance service for a time in the 1970s. He and Sally were two of the early state certified Emergency Medical Technicians in the state of Oregon.
Mike was a Bible scholar, a lay minister, an elder for his church, and spoke for camp meetings and evangelistic series across the country and all over the world, even doing one in Tennessee, in May of this year.
His passions in life were his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, the great outdoors, (specifically hunting in the Steens with his son and grandkids), traveling all over the world with his wife and friends and of course, building and crafting custom things.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:21
Mike is survived by his mother Jean, his wife Sally, daughter Tami, (Brad) son Michael, (Julie), daughter Shelly, (Troy) and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed as the leader of his family and a spokesman for his soon coming Savior.
Private services were held at the Sandy Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.
