Reiner Ralph Schmolling, Jr. was born on December 7, 1977 to Joyce Ann (Moore) and Reiner Ralph Schmolling, Sr. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to Oregon where he spent his childhood. From a young age he went by the name Michael. Finishing his GED and attending college, Michael worked as a welder and carpenter. He lived in Hillsboro. Michael liked to ride motorcycles and he had a heart for animals. He had been baptized as a Lutheran and believed in God.
Michael is survived in death by his mother Joyce Welch and his father Ralph Schmolling, Sr.; his siblings, Raymond Thai, Joseph Thai, Kim Thai-Krakowski, Darren Jones, Duwayne Jones, Emily Jones; and his step-fathers, Hai Thai and Robert Welch.
