Murray Roy "Mac" MacDonald of Sandy, Oregon, passed away at home on July 4, 2016, surrounded by family.
A celebration of his life will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Sandy, Oregon, followed by a committal ceremony at Willamette National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
Roy was born July 23, 1932, to Earl James MacDonald and Maud Bell (Bandel) MacDonald in Rochester, Minnesota. He graduated grade school in Kalispell, Montana, in 1946, and Sandy Union High School, where he was known as "Bugs", in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War ("On our side," he liked to add). He was discharged from active service in Alaska in 1955 and from the Army Reserve with the rank of Corporal in 1961.
Mac and the love of his life, Jean L. (Burroughs) MacDonald, celebrated their 64th anniversary on June 25, 2016. They lived in Portland from 1955 until they moved east of Sandy in 1976. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Daniel H. MacDonald of Sandy, and is survived by Jean; their three kids, Debra (and Mark Peterson), Daniel P. MacDonald, and Shari (and Craig Strong); and eight grandchildren.
Mac worked in the sporting goods industry, as a salesman and later as a warehouse manager, until he retired in 1992. His favorite pastimes were outrunning falling trees, mowing, teasing his family, and telling stories to make people laugh.
