Myrna Lenore Dempsey passed away peacefully at home in Boring, Oregon surrounded by her family January 7, 2012. She was 81.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the Hoodview Seventh-Day-Adventist Church in Boring, Oregon. A viewing will be held at the Sandy Funeral Home on Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st. Please call the Funeral Home for viewing times. A private entombment will be held at Riverview Abbey in Portland on Sunday.
Myrna was born in Anderson, Indiana and was the oldest of three children. She attended high school at Auburn Adventist Academy in Washington and completed her Bachelor of Science with the School of Nursing at Walla Walla College in Washington. She started her nursing career at the Portland Adventist Hospital working in the OB Department.
Myrna and Charles Dennis Dempsey were married on January 25, 1953 in Portland Oregon where they made their home and started their family before moving to Boring, Oregon. Myrna and Charles owned and operated Rest Harbor Extended Care Center in Gresham, Oregon for over 40 years where she acted as the Director of Nurses and the Assistant Administrator.
Myrna was very active in the Hoodview Seventh-Day-Adventist Church and volunteered regularly at the Portland Adventist Community Services (PACS) Center in Portland. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She enjoyed painting, knitting, aerobics, walking and most of all playing tennis.
Myrna is survived by her husband, six children and six grandchildren, her sister and brother. The family requests that in lieu of flowers remembrances can be made in the form of contributions to the local hospice service of your choice.
