Longtime Sandy resident, Penny Powell died at her home on Thursday, November 17, 2011.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Historical Society Museum.
She was born, Pamela Carol Kelly on November 25, 1941 to Gerald and Mildred (Broman) Kelly in Bremerton, Washington. The family lived in various areas of Washington and California. It was while living in California, that Penny met her future husband Leslie Powell. They were united in marriage on April 25, 1959 in Eureka, California. Later that year, they moved to Oregon and made their home in Portland where they began their family. In 1968, they moved to Sandy where they finished raising their son and daughter. Once her children were older, Penny began teaching decorative art and tole painting classes which she did up until shortly before her passing.
Penny loved gardening and spending time in her yard. She enjoyed teaching, sharing her talents with others and one of her greatest attribute was being a good listener. She was a collector of pyrographics and enjoyed spending time on her computer. Penny loved the holidays and entertaining, always making everyone and anyone feel welcome. Penny and her husband traveled in their motor home visiting both family and friends near and far.
Surviving is her husband Lee of 52 years; her son Kelly Powell of Gresham and Stacy Leonard of Gladstone; 2 granddaughters, Jaime and Jenna; her sisters, Treva McCready of Portland and Cathy Honnne’ of Forestville, California; her brothers, Richard Kelly of Napa, Idaho and Michael Kelly of Keizer.
