Beloved mother, grandmother, and dear friend, Patricia Rose Marie Kennedy, died on July 8, 2022.
Patricia was born outside of Chicago on February 8, 1932, while her family was on the road. Her parents William (Bill) Cook Sr. and Rosemary Cook left Portland, Oregon in the mid-20s to follow Bill's work for the phone company. Patricia’s brother, William (Bill) Cook Jr. was born in Ohio in 1928. In the late 30s they settled back in Portland.
In 1952, Patricia was introduced to Richard (Dick) Kennedy, a well-known Northwestern artist and graphic designer. They were married on August 29, 1953. Dick introduced her to Christian Science, and a quest for spirituality that remained with her for life.
Patricia and Dick divorced in 1972, but the love and friendship between them never died. Patricia moved to the Mount Hood area in 1974, and never left. She loved the richness and wildness of the land, and she loved the community.
For many years, Patricia worked as a Christian Science practitioner. She gave lectures and workshops on Christian Science throughout the US. She spoke of inclusivity and love.
She studied photography and art. She also took up cello. Always an avid reader, her library contains hundreds of books on philosophy, psychology, theology and physiology. One of her passions was Tibetan Buddhism and she developed many close friendships within that community.
She enjoyed travel, and the opportunity to take in other cultures. She was able to see much of the world while traveling with her daughter. Her last big trip was to Greece in 2009, a lifelong quest. The attached photo was taken on that trip.
Patricia’s life was filled with joy and laughter and love. She had a quick wit, and a delightful sense of humor. She was much loved and will be missed by many.
Patricia is survived by: daughter, Marie Kennedy; and son, Brian Kennedy; grandson, Frank Sanders, and his wife Alicia Taylor Sanders; granddaughter, Kelsey Jorgensen and her husband Scott Jorgensen; and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Cook Sr. and Rosemary Cook; her brother, Bill Cook Jr.; and her former husband Dick Kennedy.
Sandy Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
