In Loving Memory Of

Paul Ashley Hayball

November 9th, 1942 - July 14th, 2021

Obituary

Paul was born November 9, 1942, to Lowell Ashley and Edna Poulsen Hayball in Ogden, Utah. Three and a half years later the family would add a baby sister, Mary Eileen. He grew up in Utah, Wyoming, Seattle, Washington, and Bakersfield, California where he graduated from high school.

In 1962 Paul entered Brigham Young University earning a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1966.  While at college, he met the lovely Janice Maloy.  They became engaged as he entered Officer Candidate School in the U S Army stationed at Fort Knox.  Janice became sick with leukemia and tried to break the engagement, but Paul met the challenge, and they were married anyway in November 1966.  Paul became an Armor Officer and Tank Commander ready for a Viet Nam deployment.  However, Paul’s Father became ill and died causing the Army to release Paul as the only son in his family.

Paul interviewed for a Senior Buyer position at IBM, San Jose, California.  He went on to be employed for eleven years.  During which time he and Jan adopted two babies, Barbie and David.  Sadly Jan passed away in 1971.

Through some matchmaking church friends, Paul was introduced to Sally Amstad Enz who also lost her spouse from Sandy, Oregon.  The two dated long distance from California to Oregon.  Paul and Sally were married Aug. 10, 1973 in Oakland, California.  They started their marriage with his two children and her baby girl, Robyn. After residing in California for 5 years, they moved to Boring, Oregon.  While in Oregon, Paul was employed by Hyster Corporation as a Senior Purchasing manager for over 33 years.  Paul and Sally added two baby boys, Adam & Grant, to complete their family.

Paul was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints serving as a Bishop, Scout Master, High councilman, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, and many other positions.  He also served his community as chairman of the Oregon Trail Board of Directors for several years.

When not working, Paul enjoyed fixing things, wood working, watching repair videos, reading, and family activities.  His true passion was leading his family to live responsible, and making Christian values a priority.

Paul is proceeded in death by his parents, Lowell and Edna Hayball; first wife, Janice Maloy; daughter-in-law, Linda Hayball; fathers-in-law, Les Maloy & John Amstad; mothers-in-law, Nelda Maloy, & Helen Amstad.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sally; sister, Lee Bond (Ian); brother/sister-in-law, Dan & Ann Amstad; his 5 children, Barbie Phillips (Jeff); David Hayball; Robyn Simons (Rich); Adam Hayball (Jennifer); & Grant Hayball (Autumn); 14 grandchildren: Jasmine (Gabe), Britton, Jordan, Carley, Ethan, Ashton, Katelyn, Jack, Ryan, Logan, Elizabeth, Addy, Tyler, Sammy, & 1 great grandchild, Violet.  His niece and nephews and beloved fur-baby, Roscoe, along with many life-long friends.

So very sorry for the passing of this wonderful, loving man. Paul always had a smile for everyone he came in contact with - no matter how bad he felt. It was a pleasure to know him. Carolyn Richards
I have known and worked with Paul for 30+ years at Hyster Co. in Portland and then in retirement as well. He was very skilled in his Purchasing role, developing sound business relationships with suppliers and utilizing technical support from the engineering department when needed. He was a great support to me while at Hyster and along with his wife Sally, introduced me to Janice (Sally and Janice attended Sandy grade and high school together), and we eventually got married. Needless to say, Paul has had a profound effect on my life as I am sure he has been in other lives as well. He was always generous in his support, both moral and temporal, to those he met. Janice and I will miss him very much. Clyde Anderson
Sally and the entire Hayball family: our deepest condolences to all of you during this time of great loss. Sending you strength and love from MN. Katie and Jason Smith
Your dad fought a good fight up to the end. Although his “homecoming” day ended up being to his eternal home instead of coming back to his earthly home, all is well with him. Loves to your family. Sue Kilander

Dad, thank you for being the most amazing dad! You’ll be forever missed!!!! Barbie
A physically and mentally courageous and compassionate man who loved family and friends deeply. His kindness also set an example difficult to duplicate and impossible to best: only the occasional dandelion need have worried. Always, his kid [which requires a serious stretch of the imagination, given my age] sister, Lee Dr. M. Lee Lewis
We send our love and sympathy to all who love Paul! He had a wonderful way of including everyone within his warm circle of friends. May the Lord bless each of you with peace and hope as you share with each other the happy memories of Paul’s great example to us all. Steve and Linda Kimble
